THE
Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly, SNPA, according to Vanguard has
called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of Indigenous
People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and others, in accordance
with court orders, which granted them bail.
The assembly also condemned the activities of herdsmen and called on
South-East governors to adopt the Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State
model.
Rising from a two-day meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the
Assembly also accused Northern elders of creating division and
suspicion in the polity through their attitude of regarding the present
administration as exclusively theirs.
A communiqué issued after the meeting, signed by Chief Mbazulike
Amaechi, Chief Edwin K. Clark and Senator Femi Okurounmu, urged the
Federal Government to apply the principle of separation of powers in
carrying out its activities to be able to advance democracy in the
country.
The communiqué also called on the Federal Government to negotiate
with the Niger Delta and Biafra agitators to find a peaceful resolution
of their grievances, rather than the current use of force.
It read in part: “President Muhammadu Buhari should respect the rule
of law, pronouncements and ruling of courts of competent jurisdiction by
ensuring the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and all other prisoners
of conscience, which various courts have granted bail and who have
subsequently met their bail conditions.”
The Assembly, however, called on Nigerians to support President
Buhari’s administration in his effort to move the country forward,
especially in the anti-corruption war.
