Though the presidency consistently makes Nigerians believe that Muhammadu Buhari, the country’s leader, is hale and hearty and only taking a rest in the United Kingdom, governors and other notable citizens have continued to organise prayer sessions for him.
The governor was said to have betrayed his emotion at the prayer session for Buhari
At one of such special prayers held at the Birnin
Kebbi Eid praying ground and organised by residents in Kebbi state,
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu could not hold back his emotions as tears
rolled his cheeks.
He subsequently left before the event would come to an end.
The Sun reports that the event witnessed a large turnout of people as they prayed for the president and the unity of Nigeria.
Some of those at the event include Islamic
leaders, chief imams of different mosques and associations, and the emir
of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar.
The deputy governor of the state, Samaila Dabai, also attended the special prayer.
The prayer session came to an abrupt end thereafter after the governor left in tears.
While speaking earlier, Governor Bagudu said the
gathering was a sign of unity in the state. He also urged Nigerians to
continue to protect the unity of the country.
The prayer session was led by Chief Imam Alhaji
Muktaru Abdullahi Wali-Gwandu of Birnin Kebbi Central Mosque, who
pleaded with Nigerians to continue to pray for the president.
The chief imam of Gwandu, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi,
chief imam of Birnin Kebbi Eid ground, Imam Ahmadu Rufai, and the
chairman of Ulamas association, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bayewa, and such top
leaders also prayed for him.
In a related development, the Niger state
government has called for a-one week of prayer and fasting session for
the president’s quick recovery.
The state commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism in the state, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, said: “The president also needs prayers in his bid to take Nigeria through the path of greatness.
“As a government, we are praying and we urge
all Nigerlites to, starting today (Sunday), pray for Mr president’s good
health as he leads the nation through the path of greatness all through
the week.”
