The presiding judge, justice Binta Nyako today being 1st March 2017 has quashed 6 of charges in the case of the leader of the Indigenous people Of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and three others detained and incarcerated with him.
At the Federal High Court Abuja today, the presiding Justice Binta Nyako read her ruling on the application of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to quash the charges against him as the charges lack merit. The presiding judge also struck out six count charges among the twenty charges leveled against Nnamdi Kanu and three others with him. She struck out six of eleven count charges leveled against Nnamdi Kanu in particular and co-defendants.
The presiding judge, Binta Nyako stated that the charges put forward by the Nigeria government against the defendants lacks merit, as the federal government has failed to produce any veritable evidence to substantiate the charges.The judge however stated that 5 of the charges still holds and will be deliberated upon by the court.
"I have three separate applications before me, except that of the third defendants," judge Binta Nyako read in her ruling.
"The prosecution have not placed any evidence before the court, to back up the charges.
(1) Indigenous People Of Biafra(IPOB) is not an unlawful society, though is not registered in Nigeria.
I hereby strike out, Count 3,5,7,9,10 and 11.
But, Count 1,2,4,6 and 8 stands.
IPOB does not belong to an unlawful society,
"I will also put it before the court that, the only evidence the prosecutor have provided is, the statement the defendant made while broadcasting," the judge stated.

Currently, the court was adjourned to 20th March 2017; awaiting the total and inevitable discharge off all charges leveled against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Biafrans all over the court premises were rejoicing immensely following the rulings by the judge.
