MASSOB Scorns Oyegun's Call For Igbo Presidency, Reaffirms Ndigbo Need Only Biafra

The Movement For The Actualisation Of The Svoereign State Of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday scorned the call by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on the Igbo to support the party as it is the only platform to ensure Igbo presidency.
Recall, Odigie-Oyegun had, last week in Enugu, while calling on the people of the Southeast to vote for the APC, claimed the APC would guarantee their quest for an Igbo president.
However,MASSOB has through its national director of information, Mr Sunday Okereafor, described Odigie-Oyegun disregarded the call by Oyegun, saying that the statement is laughable as the Igbo want Biafra not presidency.
Okereafor who disclosed this in a phone interview with newsmen on Thursday, May 11, explained that MASSOB was neither interested in the APC nor the Peoples Democratic Party and that the movement’s struggle was for the Igbo to have a sovereign nation.
According to Naij.com, he claimed that Nigeria had never planned to have an Igbo man or woman as the President of the country, wondering why the APC national chairman would make such a statement.
Okereafor recalled that former Igbo leader, the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, and the ex-governor of Abia state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, spent a lot of their resources trying to become the president of the country to no avail.
He added: “The claim by the APC national chairman that the party will use Igbo Presidency to finally kill the PDP in the South-East is laughable. Nigeria has never had Igbo presidency in its agenda.
So, Igbo man can never be President in Nigeria in 500 years.
“The Igbo elite should understand this. MASSOB does not believe in any political party in Nigeria. We believe in the freedom of Biafra and not the campaign for the Presidency to come to a person from Igbo extraction.”
As tension continues to grow over the planned Biafra Day celebration scheduled for May 30, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has asked its members to stay at home on that day.
The order is aimed at forestalling any planned insecurity or clash between the members of the agitation group and law enforcement agencies, according to Mr Emma Powerful, its spokesperson.
Powerful said its members should sit at home and reminisce over their fallen heroes instead of marching on the streets.
In a related development, the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM/MASSOB) under the leadership of Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is pleading with security agencies to allow them celebrate the 18th anniversary of MASSOB slated for between May 22 and May 30.
BIM/MASSOB noted that it has nothing to do with violence but engage in peaceful agitations for pursuing self-determination as enshrined in international human rights charter.
